The radically different design demands of these new vehicles requires a completely new approach that is covered comprehensively in this book. The book explores the rather dramatic departures in structural configuration necessary for purpose-designed electric vehicle including weight removal in the mechanical systems. It also provides a comprehensive review of the design process in the electric hybrid drive and energy storage systems. Ideal for automotive engineering students and professionals Lightweight Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Design provides a complete introduction to this important new sector of the industry. comprehensive coverage of all design aspects of electric/hybrid cars in a single volume packed with case studies and applications in-depth treatment written in a text book style (rather than a theoretical specialist text style)

Cognitive Informatics for Biomedicine PDF
By:Vimla L. Patel,Thomas G. Kannampallil,David R. Kaufman
Published on 2015-08-10 by Springer

The book reports on the current state on HCI in biomedicine and health care, focusing on the role of human factors, patient safety well as methodological underpinnings of HCI theories and its application for biomedical informatics. Theories, models and frameworks for human-computer interaction (HCI) have been recognized as key contributors for the design, development and use of computer-based systems. In the clinical domain, key themes that litter the research landscape of health information technology (HIT) are usability, decision support and clinical workflow – all of which are affected directly or indirectly by the nature of HCI. While the implications of HCI principles for the design of HIT are acknowledged, the adoption of the tools and techniques among clinicians, informatics researchers and developers of HIT are limited. There is a general consensus that HIT has not realized its potential as a tool to facilitate clinical decision-making, the coordination of care and improves patient safety. Embracing sound principles of iterative design can yield significant dividends. It can also enhance practitioner’s abilities to meet “meaningful use” requirements. The purpose of the book is two-fold: to address key gaps on the applicability of theories, models and evaluation frameworks of HCI and human factors for research in biomedical informatics. It highlights the state of the art, drawing from the current research in HCI. Second, it also serves as a graduate level textbook highlighting key topics in HCI relevant for biomedical informatics, computer science and social science students working in the healthcare domain. For instructional purposes, the book provides additional information and a set of questions for interactive class discussion for each section. The purpose of these questions is to encourage students to apply the learned concepts to real world healthcare problems.\u200b

Published on 2014-02-04 by Routledge

Explore a wealth of ideas, insights, and approaches that can be used or adapted by any medical library! Curricular changes in the health professions, coupled with a growing acceptance of the Internet as a tool for daily living, have contributed to a climate of change and opportunity for health sciences libraries. A Guide to Developing End User Education Programs in Medical Libraries will help graduate students in library science, entry-level medical librarians, and experienced educators to understand best practices and to build, expand, and improve medical library-sponsored educational programs. A Guide to Developing End User Education Programs in Medical Libraries is designed to aid and inform professionals who develop, teach, or evaluate end-user education programs in health sciences libraries. Eighteen case studies represent the ideas and approaches of more than fifteen private and public institutions in the United States and the Caribbean. The studies focus on effective end-user programs for medical information electives, veterinary medicine programs, health care informatics, and evidence-based medicine, plus instructional programs for teaching residents, ThinkPad-facilitated instruction, and more. The guide also examines how several medical libraries have created and expanded their end-user education programs. The contributors to A Guide to Developing End User Education Programs in Medical Libraries are health sciences librarians from teaching hospitals, medical/dental/veterinary schools, and health professions-focused universities in a dozen U.S. states and the West Indies. Each of them is involved in designing, teaching, and evaluating user education. This book will help you educate students of medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, plus residents and practicing health professionals. The educational objectives and approaches in the case studies include: clinical medical librarianship integrating informatics objectives into curricula developing credit and non-credit coursework distance learning using new and emerging technologies to improve instruction The case studies in A Guide to Developing End User Education Programs in Medical Libraries follow a format similar to that of the structured abstract, including introduction, setting, educational approaches, evaluation methods, future plans, conclusion, and references. Some are illustrated with tables and figures. Several are supplemented by material in chapter-specific appendixes. Further information about specific classes, programs, or teaching philosophies is made available via Web sites featured in the book. Let this valuable guide help you—and your institution—take advantage of the opportunities available at this exciting time in the evolution of library science!

Design for Transport

Download Design for Transport PDF Books
By:"Mike Tovey"
Published on 2016-04-15 by Routledge

The central premise of Design for Transport is that the designer's role is to approach design for transport from the point of view of the user. People have a collection of wants and needs and a significant proportion of them are to do with their requirements for mobility. The authors show how creative designers can take a user-focused approach for a wide range of types of transport products and systems. In so doing their starting point is one of creative dissatisfaction with what is currently available, and their specialist capability is in imagining and developing new solutions which respond to that opportunity. How this is tackled varies depending on the context, and the variety of solutions produced reflects the different aspirations and needs of the people they are designing for. The chapters cover user needs and transport, design and the transport system, transport design case studies, and the case for the automobile. A conclusion briefly signals what the future for transport design might be. Lavishly illustrated throughout in four-colour, Design for Transport, is an imaginative and rigorous guide to how designers can take a user-centred and socially responsible approach to tackling a range of types of transport, from systems to products and from bicycles to automobiles, demonstrating a rich array of solutions through case studies.
